Magnificent Cathedral situated in the centre of Hasselt
Oct 2019
A truly impressive tower stands head and shoulders above the rest of Hasselt. It's surrounded by sculptures which are also interesting to look at.

Didn't get chance to go in, just walked around the outside and admired.

I like this church. At first suterday of each month you can get a gids and climbing to the top of the church to see the bells and the city vieuw from above.

Impressive wood carvings
Jul 2019 • Couples
From gargoyles to statues, stained glass and carvings, this cathedral is architectural art inside and out! The many confessionals located throughout this historic cathedral are amazing, dramatic and so very detailed complete with tears and worth stopping, staring and reflecting. Unbelievable that human hands created such awe-inspiring artwork and so long ago.

Lovely building and interesting history
Sep 2018 • Solo
Quite an interesting building. Although construction began in the 11/12th centuries, it wasn't elevated to the status of cathedral until the late 1960s.

Unlike some Catholic cathedrals, it's fairly reserved in its decor. It's quite a pious place. When I visited, choir practice was ongoing and the singing was enchanting.

Nice place to sit and think

I went here during the week leading up to Easter. The church is very well maintained. The father there was nice and took the time to talk to me when I asked him some questions. Nice place to sit and think.

The cathedrale is the home-church of the bishop in Hasselt.
It contains a lot of important art and religeous objects.
Such as the scabs of the virgins and the 700 years old bleeding holy wafer.
Take minimum half an hour for a quick visit, better is one hour or more, its worth it.
It is open every day till 18 hour and it is free to visi; .attention to not disturb when there is a service going.

Suggestive

Is is really beautiful from outside and most of all in the evening. Inside it's a normal church you can find everywhere. I do really love how it is positioned in the city centrum and how you can see the tower from far away with his night illumination.
I do appreciate it for a quiet moment of recollection and meditation.

Surprised by many details
Apr 2017
So I live in Hasselt and it was due time to visit our Cathedral ! And it really surprised me! I admit, I first bought a little booklet at the tourist office to help me find the interesting spots. So I got a little history lesson before entering. My favourite was the Baptistery containing some nice murals by local painter Godfried Guffens. Also the Pulpit is a must see as is the spread wings eagle lectern (dare you to find the bat). If you are lucky the closet containing the virgin skull relics is open. Here you can see some carefully wrapped skulls in beautiful embroidered cloth. Don't forget to look up at the organ, every first Saturday of the month at 15h you can hear this beautiful instrument played by a guest organist.

This "cathedral" is more of a village church. Uninteresting architecture and interior. Works of art are sadly missing.
