Located near Brussels Central station is the statue of Queen Elisabeth. Also nearby is a statue of King Albert I it's interesting to compare the two statues. The one of the Queen is not grand and she is just standing however King Albert is sat atop his horse.
Considering they were both in the same position you would think they would both have similar statues but not so. Sexism in statues?

This statue of Queen Elisabeth I (also known as Elisabeth of Bavaria) is located at Place De L'Albertine. It is facing the equestrian statue of her husband King Albert I which is located just across the street at Mont des Arts. The monument was designed by Belgian sculptor Rene Cliquet and completed in 1980,
What you will see is Elisabeth in gown which is covered by overcoat, holding what appears to be a reef or small arrangement in her left hand, perhaps a depiction of Elisabeth visiting hospital unit or grave site near a WWI battlefields. It is a humble image of the beloved queen that is well worth taking a few minutes to view when in this area of the city.

Located between Central Railway Station and Mont Des Arts is this wonderful statue in honour of Queen Elisabeth Of Belgium.
Sculptured by Rene Clique in 1980 , the queen is depicted looking over to Mont Des Arts ,it's not greatly detailed but it's regal ,it's such an iconic statue definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area and easy to locate on Place De L'Albertine.

This is a good place to start your exploration of Brussels' Art and Museums centre. It is also close to the Grand Place, City Hall and old parts of Brussels.
I approached the area on foot and once I reached this mark, I saw immediately that I had arrived at a must visit part of the Brussels. Some people were skateboarding on surrounding pavements, adding colour to the place. Across the road is the Mont des Arts.

This statue, as the name suggests, stands in tribute to Queen Elisabeth of Belgium, the queen consort of King Albert I, whose statue is opposite.
The statue of the queen depicts her in middle age, wearing a long dress reaching down to her feet and an overcoat. She holds a bouquet of flowers in her left arm. Other than that, the is rather bland. The dress, coat, face and hair are all smooth with no discernable features. With virtually no other features sculpted onto the statue, it exceedingly overrated

Queen Elisabeth Of Brussels Statue is a beautiful statue to an extremely popular queen.
Located between Central Train Station and Mont Des Arts, it's a lovely marble statue sculpured by Rene Cliquet in 1980 .
Born Elisabeth Of Bavaria she married King Albert I and rose from Duchess to Queen by 1900,she visited the troops during WW1 and was embraced by the people afterwards, the statue looks awesome and is across the road from the equestrian statue to King Albert I ,her husband.
Easy to locate on Place De L'Albertine and most definitely well worth checking out if your in the area.

The statue of Queen Elisabeth looks a little strange. The reason is that when the square where it stands was renovated some years back the statue was removed and, apparently, was not going to be replaced, until the officials relented and put the statue back in its place, minus some side panels, which explains why the statue looks a little too tall and an unusual shape. Nevertheless the queen appears to have been popular and "reigned" for a very long time. On the opposite side of the square there is the equestrian statue of the queen's husband, King Albert I of Belgium. So they are facing each other for eternity! The world famous Queen Elisabeth Music Competition was founded by Queen Elisabeth in 1937. Worth a look, for sure!

This sober statue of Queen Elisabeth of Belgium (1876 – 1965) in French Massangis stone is the work of sculptor René Cliquet. Only the smile on the queen’s face, the flowers and the shoe peeking from under the long gown break the austeriy. The statue occupies a prominent position on Place de l’Albertine and offers interesting picture opportunities. In the original monument designed by architect Jean Rombaux the statue of the queen was flanked by bas-reliefs representing her as a nurse (right) and as patron of the arts (left). When the plaza was restructured in 2009-2010 these reliefs were removed. Maybe that is the reason why this statue looks a bit forlorn and seems overly tall.
Elisabeth became queen in 1909 and was beloved for her simplicity and involvement in social welfare and the arts. Nowadays people may know her name from the prestigious international ‘Queen Elisabeth Competition’ for classical violinists, pianists, singers and cellists, which is held in Brussels. The queen is facing the much more imposing equestrian statue of her husband, King Albert I, by Alfred Courtens, on the other side of the street.
