Nothing nefarious here; I'm just suggesting that the shady side of the square, less crowded, might be a better choice if you're looking for a place to plop down and have a drink. We chose "Resto23" and were very happy with our meal, in a...More

Central - restaurants, bars, the town hall, St.Rumbolds Cathedral, shopping - everything you want to have around a central marketplace in a town. High-life when its market day, but even if not, very cool to hang out.

This is the historical heart of Mechelen. The old buildings are breathing history. It's nice to sit on a terrace to have a drink. But there are nicer places in the nearby street that are less touristic.
