- dellangelo54Turin, Italy17,765 contributionsThe oldest shopping arcade in the NetherlandsIt is the oldest shopping arcade in the Netherlands, completed in 1885 in neo-Renaissance style. Shops, bars, restaurants and even a cinema are located in the large arcade, which allows you to walk dry on rainy days. The iron and glass ceiling is very beautiful.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 31 March 2024
- hirorumiChuo, Japan1,496 contributionsDe PassageI came across this arcade-style shopping street, the oldest still standing in the Netherlands, while strolling from the Mauritshuis. It has a roof, so it's a good place to shelter from the rain. It's fun even just window shopping, with stylish general stores, souvenir shops, brand shops, restaurants, and more. It's close to the station, so it's worth stopping by.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 May 2024
- Herbert C1,867 contributionsOldest shopping arcade in the NetherlandsLiterally translated as The Arcade, De Passage is The Hague's version of the shopping arcades design that have mushroomed all over Europe in the 19th century during the Industrial Revolution and subsequent Belle Epoque era. With its signature glass roofs and domes over-arching colonnades of shops, this neo-Renaissance style shopping arcade can only aspire but will never be able to rival those in Milan, Brussels, Paris and London. Dating back to 1885, it is the oldest surviving shopping arcade in the Netherlands, and still beautifully preserved, thanks to the major restoration works in 2007. De Passage is located in the heart of The Hague and is connected to the pedestrianised shopping street Spuistraat, so you would definitely stumble upon this place if you're in the city centre. Lovely place to shop or simply to admire its splendid architecture.Visited June 2024Travelled soloWritten 12 August 2024

De Passage is the oldest still operational covered shopping mall in the Netherlands and a very beautiful one, reminiscent of similar arcades in e.g. Italy. It is a state monument and was fully restored to its original splendor in 2007, whereas the glass roof was renewed in 2017. In 2014 a magnificent Apple Store was opened here, enabled by bookshop de Slegte willing to move their activities to a different place (for a good price, no doubt).

This is a hidden little gem of a street. It has a very exclusive and upper class feel with a wonderful selection of shops. From a large Apple store to Wok kitchen shop, you will be lost in the shops for hours. There are lots of unique and Dutch items to be found in this Passage along with a great place to get a coffee or a bite to eat. Would definitely recommend heading here if you want to get away from the usual high street shops.

I was surprised to discover this hidden gem. I used to live for a short period in The Hague but I was mostly in other districts. During my last trip in Jan I discovered the Passage and I liked it instantly. Kinda reminds of the shopping centre in Milano.

Beautiful shopping arcade, reminiscent of the one in Milan, only smaller. Tip: stay away from the DOK Cookware store. Unbelievably rude and arrogant guy, presumably the manager, in the knives (!) section. Totally unacceptable. Left the store without buying anything.

De Passage is the oldest existing shopping centre in the Netherlands, that runs from the Spuistraat to the Buitenhof, and a third wing that runs to Hofweg. De Passage is a lovely covered arcade of renaissance design, housing mid to high end shopping. The place is not very big, but there's plenty of shops and cafes.

Cool mall with lots of quaint, slightly pricey shops. It's very photogenic and you might find something to buy here. Worth walking through if nearby.

Who needs modern shopping malls while these old passages, on a much more human scale, exist? Shops and cafés offering a variety of goods from clothes to kitchenware to pens to computers and phones. And the coffee and chocolate in Hot and Stork is worth the visit alone.

The Passage is in Den Haag Centre and is the oldest shopping arcade in the Netherlands. The original section runs from Spuistraat to Buitenhof and was completed in 1885, there have been further extensions to the Passage over the years without spoiling it’s appeal as it is a charming place with a lot of character. It is one of the many must see attractions that The Hague has to offer.

The galleries are pretty. The shops look great. However, it seems over-priced and over-crowded (at least when we visited - Sunday lunch time).
We ended up witnessing a fight between two women just while we were going to buy some ice-cream. We decided to carry on despite and we had the full show including the police, which were really fast and efficient.

I often visit the passage, either to just take a shortcut to go to the best shopping street of The Hague, Hoogstraat/ Noordeinde, to visit a shop inside the passage or to go to the cafe/ restaurant there called Deluca.
The building itself is nice to see, inside and out, but if you walk through it then your in and out in 5 minutes. It has some special, nice shops, such as the tea shop, the kitchen supply shop and it had a very nice and big bookstore. Unfortunately it closed and soon that part will house a huge Apple store (there now is a small one).
This time is not the best time to go as they are refurnishing/ renovating some stores, but on the other hand take a peak as it is still nice and relatively quiet.
