Unfortunately, you cannot visit the palace that houses the court. However, the visitor center is also worth a visit. With free entry and a free audio guide, you can learn a lot about the history of these great institutions.

This is the place of the International Criminal Court. A bit away from downtown Den Haag, Vredespaleis is an impressive structure in a peaceful surrounding. While getting in is almost impossible, a glance of the building itself is fine. More interested ones can visit a visitor center.

Rainy day in The Hague on my own so went to see this historic and important building. Pleasantly surprised by the informative and free visitor centre with informative audio tour. An enjoyable 45 mins or so and a poignant reminder of how important it is to maintain international relations.

Well-known for hosting international peace conferences in the early 20th century since it opened in 1913, the Peace Palace today houses a host of important judicial bodies, the most familiar being the principal judicial body of the United Nations, ie. the International Court of Justice. Designed in the Neo-Renaissance style and funded by Carnegie's philanthropic legacy, the imposing building is architecturally impressive in its own right despite being anchored by 2 asymmetrical towers of differing heights. However, it's a shame that one can only admire the building from outside the heavily-guarded gate as the place is not accessible to the public without paid advance guided tour bookings. If visiting Madurodam miniature park is in your itinerary, you can also see a replica of the Peace Palace there, albeit at a modest 1:25 scale! An important building in the context of global peace and justice, but other than that, there isn't much to rave about here.

For a Carnegie sponsored institution, many things were not available or free. No guided tours available inside Peace Palace or garden, bathrooms cost .50, audio tour in visitor center works sporadically- takes a long time to load and also ear phones don’t work (we traded in two). No papers or pens available for the “peace tree”. I would skip the audio tour and just read the exhibits.

I had the opportunity to visit the building, seat of the Permanent Court of Arbitration, guided by relevant staff of the Court, with a group of colleagues who work in arbitration. The inside of the building and its details are impressive. The history behind it and the work done inside it, overwhelming.

Taking a guided tour through is your only option for this place. Having said that, it's the best way as well. The guides know literally everything about the place. Every brick every time every sculpture of painting was a gift from a country who supported the construction of The Peace Palace. The history of this building and what it represents is extremely fascinating and well worth the effort if you're ever here in The Hague. 10 out of 10!

This is an extraordinary place and as you are not allowed to take photos inside you've probably only ever seen the exterior. When it was built the world leaders of the day competed to donate the most magnificently expensive objects. For example the gigantic vase carved out of a single piece of green jasper given by the Czaar of Russia, so heavy that the floor is specially reinforced. The huge irony of it all is that within a few years the first world war had destroyed not only peace but the old world order and rulers like the Czaar. Strangely this irony is not mentioned during the guided tour. Enclosed by the building is a fountain decorated by life sized polar bears made from finest porcelin. Unfortunately porcelin will crack in low temperatures so during the winter the polar bears are covered by a heated dome. I don't know where to start with the irony of that one!

This building is of special significance for people from Indian sub-continent, because of on going case for Justice to an Indian Navy officer who was condemned to death by Pakistan Army Tribunal. We did not have time to undertake a guided tour but we enjoyed nice Ice-Cream in front of main gate. We had a great chat with the ice-cream vendor regarding many subjects

This peace palace is well known for the position it has in the world of peace, justice and arbitrage. The free exhibition gives a very good overview on the history and purpose of this landmark. Moreover, guided tours are available (reservation required), but also from distance it is impressive and located beautifully!
