Sunday Visit
Nov 2021 • Couples
Only up 8 weeks a year. Visited on the last day this autumn. Way too busy. People everywhere, no space to enjoy what is a very small garden. No social distancing. Noisey children. Not a peaceful experience, as a Japanese garden should be. Not easy to get to either. Long walk from center of the Hague, no easy public transport link. Wouldn’t visit again.

Clingendael, A Beautiful Blend of Nature and History - Japanese Garden, the centrepiece
Jul 2020
Clingendael is possibly one of the most beautiful estates in the Netherlands. The 16th century traditional manor and its surrounding gardens make for a gorgeous destination. Clingendael refers to valley between (in) the dunes. And what an amazing valley it is with the landscaped gardens and the lush undisturbed natural forest areas. The Japanese Garden happens to be the best and most delicate sections of this place.

Very cool place. I'd highly recommend going there for the style and the garden itself. Very nice to see

Worth a visit especially when it's open limited time in a year only
May 2019
Open usually in May and two weeks in October, the Japanese garden receives more and more visitors each year. Photography and theme photo shoot lovers can't miss the garden in blossom. It's a modest size garden, well curated and looked after. Weekdays visit may be better as on a weekend the place is too busy to have any pleasurable impression and idea of the garden the essence of which- to rejoice with nature in harmony, solitude and silence.

I visited this park for the first time last autumn, and I found it beautiful! Yes, it is a bit small and definitely crowded (even on a rainy day, but understandable given it’s only open for two weeks in spring and two weeks in autumn) but I really liked it. Maybe that was because it was my first visit to such a garden ever, but still. Loved the colours and the design. Will return in spring for sure!

Not really worth visit
Oct 2019 • Couples
Poor, small “trying to look Japanese garden” place - maybe the season wasn’t helpful. Very small garden within Clingendael park. Structures are cheap (Dutch) looking; Japanese style maintenance of trees/plants appear absent - more alike cutting them in “Japanese style”. Not just in Japan also elsewhere in Europe there are more genuine Japanese gardens.

Probably better in the spring
Oct 2019 • Family
We went in the autumn and it was very muddy. While it was pretty enough, the foliage looked very similar to that of the surrounding park - nothing particularly special to the casual visitor. Will try again in spring when I suspect the flowers will be more interesting.

Something different from the usual
Oct 2019
I went to this place in the middle of October. Nothing was blooming at that moment. It was small and crowded.

A gem in the heart of Den Haag
Oct 2019 • Friends
We were lucky enough to be in Den Haag when the Japanese gardens were open to the public. The place is quite small but very well kept. 15 minutes were enough there and I must admit I was a bit disappointed as I thought that the gardens would be larger.
