Climb the tower!
Feb 2019 • Friends
It´s 230 steps to climb, but what a view. We visited this church and climbed the tower on our third visit to Zwolle.

Zwolle's landmark
Aug 2018 • Couples
The landmark of Zwolle is the tower of the "Onze Lieve Vrouwe" church, nicknamed in Zwolle "De Peperbus" (The pepper pot). This is due to the possible similarity of the top of the tower to a pepper shaker. The tower was constructed in the 14th and 15th century. Later additions caused the nickname to be adopted. It is possible to climb the tower for a nice view of Zwolle and surroundings.

See the city from a different angle
May 2018 • Couples
You can climb the tower via a small stairway to get to approx 55 meter high. From here, especially with clear weather, you will have a great view over Zwolle. Definitely worth the climb.

Good view of Zwolle and a nice, decorated interior
Jun 2017 • Friends
Lovely church, and climb the 236 steps to the top of the tower and you'll get a decent panorama view of the city as well! Unfortunately, there is a chained fence that you have to look through, so really only small lenses and cell phones will be able to take good photos up there, but you can still see a lot. The church itself is very pretty on the inside, with an incredible painting of Jesus at the very front hall, and the structure is a lovely hallmark of Zwolle.

Favourite in Zwolle
Jun 2016 • Couples
Climbed the 236 steps to the top of the tower for a beautiful view. Excellent pictures. Stairs are narrow, short, and dizzying, and there are more than you think wouldn't recommend for small kids or elderly. Inside of the church is beautiful. Well worth a visit.

Great tower for climbing and view of Zwolle from up above on clear days
Mar 2016 • Couples
For a small fee (March 2016: EUR 2,50 per person) you can climb up the stairs of the 'Peperbus' (pepper shaker). It is the tower that belongs to the 'Onze Lieve Vrouwe Basiliek' church. This tower is one of the better ways to get to see the city of Zwolle from up above. There is only a slight way in which the organisation can improve this: advertise on the internet and at the door the days you are not opening the doors for the public that wants to climb up the tower. On 'Holy Saturday' (Dutch: Stille zaterdag) the doors to the tower did not open, although the website nor the signs at the door indicated anything about the Peperbus being closed that day. We encountered quite a few disappointed tower aficionados that day. The nearby tourist office also had no clue that the Peperbus would stay closed that day (but indeed, the people running the tower had not come for the key...). Room for improvement.

Just a nice view over the city
Jan 2015 • Solo
This is simply a good tower to get a nice view over the city - and that view is alright because of the historic buildings in Zwolle. In my opinion the spectacular views within the Netherlands are often found in Zeeland, where the alternations between water and land add a nice background to the historic attractions.

Great view of the region from top of the 'peperbus'
May 2015 • Family
The interior of the church is beautiful and you can even climb the tour, which gives you an excellent view of the city centre and surroundings of Zwolle when weather circumstances are favourable.

Big church with nice tower
Mar 2015 • Solo
The church is impressive and so is the 'Peperbus'. It's 75 meters high and you can see it from a large distance. The tower is open and you can climb in it and watch places like Kampen and Hasselt with nice weather.

Worth the climb

Just pay for a ticket and climb the stairs! The view over Zwolle is great. The church itself is okay.
