I enjoy quirky things and when I saw there was a National Museum of Spectacles I had to check it out. The directions on trip advisor were pretty accurate however when I arrived at the location I could not find the museum.

I visited the sock shop in the street and asked the lady in the shop where the museum was and she said that it has now closed.

A shame but I hope Trip advisor read this review and update their records accordingly.

We were visiting a record shop across the street and noticed the museum attached to an interesting old opticians, I assumed it would be free entry but it was €4.50 each which as it turned out was a complete waste of money.
The "exhibition" covers two tiny floors and if you were to read everything it would take about 30 minutes to look around but I doubt we spent 15 minutes there.
Save your money for something better.

Glasses museum was all a bit strange. Had to press a door bell to get in. Rather abrupt reception by staff. Directed towards very steep stairs - most definitely not accessible if any mobility issues. First floor was private second and third various glasses and eyesight paraphernalia. Interesting enough, quirky to say the least but limited. In and out within 10 mins.

We like a niche museum, my other half and me, so were excited to find so many in Amsterdam.

We popped in to the Spectacles Museum and found there is a shop on the ground floor and two rooms above (up some terrifying stairs) with display cabinets. There is quite a lot on show and most of the information was in English so it was an interesting 30 minutes or so.

Perhaps they don't make much money out of the shop so charge for the museum, but we did feel EUR4.50 was a bit pricey - particularly given the Cheese Museum (a room below a shop) was a similar size and quality, and free. Maybe the shop sales are better there.

Still, it was worth a visit - a museum on a topic we hadn't seen anywhere else.

I love vintage and vintage glasses. I once bought 2 pairs here (not cheap, because it is new deadstock vintage). I always advice my 50's loving friends to go here. Wanted to buy a new pair, but the lady in the shop was awfully unfriendly. Don't know what her problem is. Maybe she doesn't like younger people maybe she is racist or homofobic or just stuck up?

I think that 4.50?/person for a Very small room with no guide nor interactivity is really too much. Pass here only if it's raining and you are curious about glasses...... Poor.

Located in a building dating back to 1620, this museum traces 700 years of eyewear history. The first floor is a shop selling glasses dating back 100 years. The top three floors house the collection. The stairway is very narrow with no lift, so it is not for baby strollers. The display cases are loaded with glasses of all shapes and sizes - from Shubert's, to Dame Edna's, along with careful documentation. There is so much to look at, you can take as long or as little as you want - we spent an hour. This is a unique, fun and interesting museum, and it would be a shame to miss it. It is open Wed, Thur, Fri, and Sat. 11:30 - 5:30
