For me the best part of the Stedelijk Museum is the Base. Its purpose is to give the veiwer an overview of major personalities, movements, etc. in modern art. I counted over fifty different media there. At sixty, I also found that a few items...More

I love art but I am not an art expert or critic. Amsterdam has world class museums where you can admire some of the most beautiful art in the world and stimulate your intellect and your spirit, such as the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh....More

Let's start with the permanent collection - a survey from pretty much 1900 onwards - mainly in one large basement room. Curators always get bored with a 'conventional' layout but they've compromised here; there's a chronological progression around the wall with themed break-out mini-displays toward...More

Very nice museum for modern art. Variety of different shows of great modern artists. If you have time take 2-3 hours to explore.

Good collection of modern art in and architecturally important building. The inside is as exciting as the exterior shapes. Also has a good shop with nice collection of arty gifts.

To be honest I was more excited by the MOCO Museum a block away showing Banksy, but I was glad to see some Mondriaan, a Lichtenstein, examples of the COBRA art museum and even some Van Goghs that were somehow in this modern art museum...More

Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part
of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh
Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed
museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you
need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the
Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark,
the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand
connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping

It is not needed, the lines go quite fast. But it can never hurt to purchase it on advance.
