Haarlem is simply a beautiful place. It has quaint edifices with fantastic architecture. Very lovely places. They have their mini red light district, coffee shops, cafe and the grand archaic churches with huge clothes. Simply lovely

A major city street with lots of shopping and eating, public transit, lots of people and traffic. Some good architecture.

One main street near the Brouwers canaal, quieter and less touristy further down you go. I used to use this street for cafes and shops, as a resident. Lots of finds, very specialist unique stores, and not touristy. An amazing Bakers on the Bridge of...More

Haarlemmerstraat is a little bit more traditional Amsterdam. It has narrow tall houses some bars and cafes but not overly commercialized that is aimed at tourists.

Love Haarlemstraat. Collection of varying shops to catch the eye. Something for everyone. Always bustling with life, great for people watching. Lovely to stroll down.

Haarlemmerstraat is much more than a soulless shopping street but a street that has a real vibe to it. It's got a really nice look to it with it's narrow streets and even narrower tall houses that Amsterdam is famous for. That said there are...More

I judged the Haarlemmerstraat and -dijk still a "real" street in 2015 because of its local shops for local residents. Those local shops are disappearing quickly now and replaced by "hebbedingetjes" (cute to have but useless) shops for visitors. This is not an improvement.
