Not far from the Abbey Cathedral this Reformed Church was immersed in Reformation events in the first half of the 1500s.

Assumed to be first founded in the mid 1100s, there have been a number of religious buildings on the site. It now has a fine façade and soaring tower.

Inside is attractive. Along the nave are arches and columns, the top half of which is colourful. A magnificent organ graces the balcony at the front, behind an altar noteworthy for its simplicity.

A deep blue ceiling peppered with golden stars is gorgeous.

All of my St. Gallen reviews have the caveat that St. Gallen is nice, but not worth a separate trip. If it's on your way somewhere else it's a decent stop with a few things to see. This cathedral isn't as flashy as the main one, but still worth a visit given it's proximity to the city center & other attractions. It's a quick visit.

St Laurenzen certainly has a very long history - named after Laurentius who was martyred - suffering a rather grizzly end. He gave away all the church riches to the poor, instead of keeping them to hand over to the emperor Valerian as instructed.

I really liked the decor - certainly different to most churches you see.

Well worth visiting if you are in St Gallen.

While the monastery remained Catholic the rest of the canton turned Protestant. St. Laurenzen has a storied history but a simple decor. The colored tiled roof and tower are pretty cool.

Quite a big contrast to the baroque architecture of the neighboring cathedral. A good place to enjoy a few moments of rest. If you get the chance to climb the tower, take it, the view from there is stunning.

A very pretty church, with an eclectic roof design and very intricate, well maintained interior. Highly recommended!

Nothing special about the church itself, except for the roof. You can climb the tower and get a great picture of the colorful tiles from above. That was mainly what I wanted to do when I stopped by around 2:30. I didn't find the entrance to the tower, and I didn't find anyone working there. So I stopped by again after seeing the beautiful library nearby, and now someone was there. But now it was after 3PM, and that person said the tower had closed at 3PM.

The brightly tiled roof caught my attention first and I fleetingly thought of Gaudi's Barcelona. The interior was equally as impressive with ornate carvings and sculptures. It was a delight to be in the stillness this church offered.

Intrigued by the "outside" we went to visit.
I would say it was interesting but we prefer other places in St. Gallen

Right across the way from the Cathedral. We were the only ones in there. I preferred it's neo-gothic style to that of the Cathedral. One thing I've never seen before is that the organ is in front part of the church rather than at the rear. There is a tower you can climb up supposedly for good views of the city. It was closed the day we were there.
