I've visited Lucerne before, but somehow missed seeing this gem until my recent trip. I was impressed by the size and beauty of the carving, and even more by the lush green setting and pond. This is an outstanding spot for a photo and also...More

This monument truly stands out from our recent trip to Europe. Something about the location and presentation is very sobering. Do not miss going by to take a look for yourself. The sadness of the lion and the history behind the monument make it truly...More

We discovered the monument during our Lucerne Orientation tour. I believe the monument was built in memory of the Swiss Guard who bravely defended Louis XVI during the French Revolution.

Read the history before going or else it will just be a statue of a lion. If you are not part of a tour group then spend some time in the benches opposite the monument. Been there twice now and liked it both the times.

Even for someone who is not familiar with the history, both due to being too young and being foreign (I was 13 when I visited, and I am from Angola) there is an inescapable moment when the sculpture of the monument touches the heart and...More

A beautiful monument that is a close walk from city center. It’s free. If you’re a science geek like me, go to the Glacier Garden next door. 15$ pp but if not, skip it. You typically spend only 15 minutes here, if that. A symbol...More

I've now seen this monument twice and would definitely come back to see this again. I do strongly suggest you get a tour that includes this monument or read up about this beforehand cuz the story behind this monument is incredible. I definitely recommend this...More

Mark Twain was right. He said it was the saddest statue he ever saw. Its setting in a quiet, darkened, somewhat secluded part of town lends the proper setting to this unique piece of art.

This small but beautiful park just a short walk from the water is a must see. It was given as a gift from France and has a very touching story behind it. It's much larger than pictures make it out to be.

Just 2 minutes from Ibis Styles. This is a park which has the monument for the Swiss mercenaries who valiantly fought and laid down their lives during the French revolution. Read the history on the outer walls and then enter. the statute of the lion...More

You go up to the Rathausplatz, than turn right to the Weggisgasse. Go right along this street. Go straight on to the Hertensteinstrasse to the Löwenplatz. Cross this place and go short left, 30 sec.
