We were with the Taizé community, the European encounter of Christians. This is the church we visited several times. Amazing construction, vitrified glass artwork. Enchanting.

Thank you very much, Anamarija, and a good onward journey: Frank and the church-team!

The church is used as a type of "open community" church. It is not attached to any one particular religion. Very pretty inside.

Beautiful church with no entry fee, and great architecture. There is also a cafe if you are hungry with outdoor seating.

That's what we found also in the very center of the old Basel, a very nice and elegant Gothic Kirche Elizabethen. It is not so old sanctuary, dating from the second half of nineteenth century when it was built and now located, here in the...More

From the outside it looks like a church, and with so much going on outside you might just walk past it. However, as you approach from the front door (it looks shut. It’s open, just try the door) you’ll open it to a church come...More

It’s a not so big but quite a beautiful church. There was a small cafe too. (It’s a bit weird for me to see a cafe just in the church). We walked 230 steps up to the top and enjoyed a stunning view. But the...More

A city of culture for connoisseurs on the Rhine. Switzerland's oldest university city, tradition-conscious yet open-minded, with a beautiful cobbled Old Town and modern architecture designed by Herzog and de Meuron, Mario Botta, Richard Meyer, Diener and Diener, and Fondation Beyeler by Renzo Piano. A church for all and trying to keep up with the times too. Old traditional to trendy youngsters trying to be catered for in good traditional Grand church environs.

We stopped by on our walk around Basel. The building is gorgeous. We wrote a prayer and lit a candle. It was peaceful and serene. A perfect place to reflect on our world during our travels.

Dear TexasJulieB: You just found what is so precious about our beautiful church: The silence and the prayer. The prayer you wrote will be cited aloud during our noon-prayers ("Stadtgebet"). Blessings for your onward journey! Frank
