It's emotionally difficult to visit Jewish sites in Europe. Undoubtably one faces the harsh truth of a community nearly brought to extinction by the Nazi. A once thriving community, no longer. But in Sienna, the guide made the experience colorful and hopeful amidst the sad...More

We did not expect much, as this synagogue does not advertise itself anywhere. However, we were enchanted by the inside settings, the tour lady and fascinating history behind the building and Siena overall. This place is a nice break from Palio di Siena talk which...More

From outside you wouldn't think that is is worth to step in. But when you ar in you will love this place. Specifically if you are Jewish as you get a very detailed explanation about the history of the Jews in Siena.

Beautiful and meaningful synagogue. As an American Jew, learning about the history of the Jewish community of Siena was incredibly meaningful and inspiring, and how this small but ancient community continues to exist and live in the city today. Lucia gave me a wonderful private...More

This present synagogue designed by Zanobi del Rosso in 1786 has an unobtrusive exterior, quite plain, and is unnoticeable/ unremarkable.....But inside is an exquisitely painted and decorated synagogue with beautiful bible verses illuminated in carved gold letters with deep blue backgrounds. The double height walls...More

It was so interesting seeing this small but lovely synagogue. It's locked, with a hand written sign posted as to when it will open for the next tour. If you come to the door at that time you can get in. When we went there...More

Jewish Italy is fascinating. Many know of the synagogues in Venice, the beautiful shuls in Florence and Rome. But the stories from Siena and Pitigliano are equally compelling. We were fortunate to stay with the Fiorentini family, who graciously showed us their shul. Compare this...More
