I found the Mercato Centrale a wonderful place. Fruits and vegetables, Fresh meats, chicken and fish all on display. Breads, cheese, sausages are ready for slicing and eating. The market is dotted with coffee stands so you can get a real Italian breakfast. You can...More

I love markets! The market in Livorno is filled with smells and colours. Tasty cheeses, fabulous pastas, fresh pasta, wonderful fresh fish, cured hams, olives ....... and so much more.

Not much to do here, mostly just a way station for other locations. Typical city without much to set it apart.

On a Monday around Noon, the Mercato Centrale is a rather disgusting place to be. About half of the stores inside were open, while the rest were shuttered. The ones that were open seemed to be mostly butchers, and many specialized in some kind of...More
