The equestrian statue stands out on one side of the massive square. The figure on the horse is one of the most prominent of the Medici family. Grand.

Cosimo 1 was one of the Medicis and lived in the 16th century. He is behind the Uffizi buildings, they were offices to start with. He also finished Pitti Palace and created the Boboli Gardens. The statue is from 1598 and was created by Giambologna.
