This year was the first time having gone to Sicily and taking a group of six. To say that we fell in love with Sicily, is an understatement. It is an absolutely wonderful place to visit, and so incredibly rich with history. My only regret is that our time there was too short, but we will certainly be back. One of our very favorite places in Sicily, was Siracusa, but it could never have been as wonderful without our excellent guide, Laura. She is a walking encyclopedia with her expertise and knowledge of Siracusa. She is kind, funny, passionate, engaging, interesting and brings everything alive. Truly the best and I just can't say enough about her. Her love and passion is contagious, and this is why I believe that seeing Siracusa without Laura Cassataro, is not seeing Siracusa and Ortiga at all! Grazie tanto Laura, per averci dato un bellissimo ricordo di Siracusa e della Sicilia! Speriamo di poter rivederci presto! Gloria e Compania Bella

I arranged for Dr. Laura Cassataro to privately guide us for a half day walking around Ortigia and another half day exploring Siracusa's archeological park, museum and it's amazing ancient quarry, now a beautiful park. I highly recommend her for fascinating private tours and in depth knowledge of one of the most important cities of the ancient world. We were very late for our first tour (hotel issues) but Laura was a real trooper and was extremely flexible to work with. She really brought the city of Ortigia to life for us, and presented to us all its most magnificent monuments. Most astonishing of all is the Duomo, which Laura helped us understand with just the perfect amount of explanation. Truly a city of palimpsests--so many layers of history! The archeological park, museum, and quarry are reason enough to visit Siracusa. Laura worked in the museum for many years and knows the collection intimately, She gave a wonderfully focused tour. And to walk around with an archeologist to see the ruins of the Greeks and Romans is such a treat! We especially loved the quarry, to learn about its legends, its wonderful echo (Laura sang for us in it!), and its actual history. Do not hesitate to hire Dr. Cassataro! You will fall in love with her, Ortigia and Siracusa!

Thank you Laura for a fascinating tour of the archaeological park! Laura was a brilliant guide, extremely knowledgeable and very lovely. Without her we wouldn't have understood the significance of the park and its history, nor would we have met all of the wonderful cats that live there!

Laura took me and my wife and two teenage sons on a wonderful tour of the archeological park in Syracuse - one of my sons is normally very bored in museums but even he enjoyed it and found it interesting. She combined great knowledge of the area and the history, with a good sense of humour and a lovely spirit - highlight was her performance in the Ear of Dyonisos cave!

Thomas, thanks so much! It’s normally harder to guide teenagers than adults. I'm really happy. You have a wonderful family! I hope to see you again

We hired Laura Cassataro for a half-day tour as a way of quickly getting acquainted with Ortigia/Siracusa on the morning after our arrival. Laura was delightful and so very knowledgeable. She was exactly what we wanted, someone who could speak in some depth about history, culture, architecture and art. We met her on the steps of the Duomo in Ortigia and were given a great introduction to the Duomo with its remnants of the original Greek columns from the temple on which it was built. We then spent an hour or so in a walking tour of the central area of Ortigia. The highlight was seeing a masterful Caravaggio in the church of Santa Lucia alla Badia, also in the Piazza Duomo. Afterward she drove us to the Archeological Park where she had worked for many years. She knew everyone we encountered, including the many stray cats around the park. We first visited the Anfiteatro Romano, a 2nd century Roman amphitheater used primarily for gladiatorial combats and horse races. Then we saw the massive limestone quarries within which you find the Ear of Dionysius, an ear-shaped grotto left from years of limestone removal. It has perfect acoustics inside which Laura ably demonstrated with her spectacular singing voice. Finally, we visited the 5th century Greek theater, still occasionally used for performances. Seating for 16,000 was cut from the rocky hillside. All that we saw in just half a day. We highly recommend hiring Laura Cassataro for a knowledgeable, in-depth orientation to Siracusa!
