Well, Palermo is not only that long list of marvels for which, map in hand, you have to stay in a queue in full sun and get on a touring bus... It's also a long list of marvels that pop in front of you when...More

A church that looks like a theatre, with an elliptical plan, velvet curtains and high pile carpets, with a long history of destructions and restorations, stupendous marble and stucco decorations and superb acoustics, where classical concerts are given regularly as well as religious services. An old church which is now fascinating as a result of its "theatre" interior. The old things are worth looking, but the modern ideas of an architect converted it to a place where todays people are still welcome and feel participating in the religious ceremonies.

Very beautiful church and anyplace else would be a jewel in the crown but with so many gorgeous churches in Palermo its one among the many, still worth a few minutes visit free the time we went.

Easy to walk past and miss - take the time to look out for it. Beautiful inside, and also able to climb the 146 steps to the dome - great view from the top.

Cheaper than the cupola in the cathedral at 2 euros 50. You get an amzing view down via V Emanuele towards the sea at one end and the cathedral at the other. Much less busy too when we were there.

A pleasant surprise greats you behind the tall narrow entrance doors of this apparently unassuming building as approached from the street. A most incredibly display of a baroque church with balconies and a very tall although damaged & subsequently restored dome. The additional surprise is...More
