My wife and I spent an interesting two hours in the museum and got a nice overview of the history of Oristano. This, plus an hour or two at Tharros, is definitely worth while for anyone with an interest in the fascinating history of this area. Also, we definitely recommend signing up in advance for a tour of Oristano' historic center. The museum's web page gives an email address to do this. The cost is nominal and the information is well worth the time and effort. You'll enjoy it.…

This museum is a little tucked away and the proper entrance ( through an archway ) is poorly signposted , as we walked past it and went in via a rear entrance that looked like the main entrance ( they still let us in 🙂) . Once in , we were guided to a video of the history of the museum and it's artefacts ( Italian with English subtitles) . There are a couple of floors in the museum and it is packed with mainly items from Tharros and a model of how it looked in Roman times ( can't really see the point of going to Tharros as all the items have been moved to here and one or two other museums on Sardinia). This was an excellent museum. They had most all of the displays spelled out in English and the information on Tharros was a great help when we visited the site. The bronze artifacts with the great detail are beautiful. Also, the mask of the smiling man was a favorite of mine.
