Stunning detailed archaeology which is well presented. It is worth paying to enter the crypt to see this work although not always staffed. There was also a wedding the day we visited which was extraordinary as the guests all had hand fans and the pews...More

For a small fee you can enter the excavation site under the Bari Cathedral. There are layers of ruins here- Roman ruins, medieval basilica, and even a piece of Roman road. There are plenty of explanatory signs which are also in English. The real standout...More

The Cattedrale di San Sabino built on 12 century on ruins of a first Imperial Byzantine cathedral destroyed in the 11 century, now it's an archeological site to visit; splendid mosaics.

Very impressive place. Although not too much interested in archeological places this place has really impressed me a lot. Very recommended. Entrance fee is 3 Euro now.

One of the most simplest Cattedrales I have ever seen- really example of the Romanove's style - very very simple everywhere- but maybe that " simple" style is giving this place so great view!!!

In my view the archeologists have done a fantastic job restoring a site in what must have been very difficult conditions. You get a clear picture of the original building on top of which, eventually, Bari Cathedral was built. Purpose constructed walk-ways carry you around...More

Below the cathedral recent work brought up a series of surprises: what used to be the foundations of the church above are really tombs, an older church and many other surprises. Well kept and beautifully restored. Modest entry fee (1 €) and totally accessible on...More

It is fascinating to see the remains from earlier periods that have been uncovered under the cathedral.
