The outside walls are pristine white. You can go into the lower part where the sarcophagus of St Nicola is located and it was packed with devotees so I could only see from a distance . The inside was a pleasant change from the many...More

I went twice because this is a very special place. The tomb in the crypt which has been there since 1087 (the remains of St Nicholas were bought here for safety; he originally died in Turkey in the 4th century) is an amazing, atmospheric place....More

What a church, history like this well worth visiting. Best to have a guide take you in so you can appreciate the history of the place. Amazing decorative ceiling panels. Regards David B

I don't visit old churches so much any more. I was glad I walked into this one. It has a very interesting interior with lots to see and admire - art wise.

Finished in 1197, this beautiful church, with its mostly square shape was built of limestone. The interior has a unique architecture and the ceiling is stunning. At almost one thousand years old, it is a must see.

It's located in the city centre so getting there is actually nice walk. One of the main sights, can't miss it if you go walking in the old city.

I highly recommend to visit the San Nicola Basilica on Thursday morning, the saint's relics of Sint Nicolas are open one day a week.

We were very impressed by this beautiful basilica and the way it had been restored to it's original state by stripping it of the baroque transformations which had been added.

The best thing is the century old catacomb where Saint Nicolas has been buried. This Basilica is a must see when visiting Bari.

With all the discussion about colonial and slave heritage, I like to see that San Nicola was brown, not white or black. Simple church but nice statue of San Nicola and interesting crypte.
