It's worth seeing if you're in Verona. Again, it sits above street level so you can't get right up to it but it certainly is a work of art.

There are some information boards, some in English, that give details about the family and tombs. Great examples of Gothic funerary art. The church and cemetery stand just northeast of Piazza dei Signori in the Old Town a short distance from Dante's statue.

1 Euro, a small price to pay to see these old and interesting tombs of the Scaligeri family. Recommended.

The final resting place of Cangrande I (1291-1329), who is known as Big Dog, is the sole tomb in his powerful Scaligeri family's cemetery that is not freestanding. It was impossible to miss when we arrived at the large fenced-in burial plot by tiny Santa...More

The folks buried in this setting were apparently extremely powerful and seemingly feared as a result. Their burial area is dark and fearsome but certainly worth a peek. All the bars around the area make it hard to see.

Lots of history here, dating back hundreds of years, and there are explanations in several languages including English. Check it out.
