As Venice totally car-free, it is only accessible by train, boat The modern station building in the district of Cannareigo. Built in the 1940s/1950s after the demolition of the Church of Santa Lucia, which is how the station got its name. Hundreds of trains arriving...More

We took a water taxi (with our "city pass") to this station and to view the surrounding area. The station was clean and tidy throughout. Lots of activity with the boats, trains and buses. Nice cafes and restaurants within the main building. Many people sat...More

On a rail holiday we used the station, it is clean and modern with several shops. Easy to locate your trains, didn't buy tickets as we had pre booked. Outside the station there are vaporetto's, water taxi's to take you around or you can walk...More

It feels like magic arriving by train across the causeway and then stepping out onto the canal side. The station itself now has a range of shops to beat Regents Street. Nearly all the vaporetto numbers stop here and there is now a bridge directly...More

System is poorly organised and managed with little explanation. The concrete docking area we waited in had a number 3 on it and we waited for a while until we were told that this particular boat was arriving at a different dock. Why put this...More

Venezia Santa Lucia is nice entry point to Venezia, easy to use and I find it safety as well. Platforms are quite low as they are pretty old. Building itself is in good conditions with shops, train tickets offices and small snack stations and restaurants....More

Watch for pickpockets and bag snatchers. It didn't happen to us but you can watch it happen. This has all of the needs a train station needs to have. Easy to book tickets and get around.

Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district)
with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many
transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying
areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand
for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal
bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution,
2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli
Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby

Come to think about it, second class is as good as first and sometimes you have to get up early for a cheaper option! If you buy the cheaper option on the web you cant miss that one!
