Most people don't know you can actually go under this church, which is just outside and across the canal from the train station.

Designed by Giovanni Antonio Scalfarotto and completed in 1738, this domed neoclassical building is one of the last churches to be built in Venice.

The Chiesa San Simeon Piccolo is what we saw every day directly across the canal from our hotel. I would have liked to have had a tour guide with me when I visited it, but it looked beautiful, spiritual, and inviting, so my husband and...More

Right across the grand canal from the train station. It's a beautiful domed church. This is the first building we saw after exiting out from the Venice train station. Great first impression of Venice seeing this church.

This church was originally built in the 8th century but was rebuilt in the 10th century and dedicated to Saint Moses. The façade dates to 1688.The sculptures on the façade have less to do with religious icons and are of church patrons. Inside the altarpiece...More

This is a gorgeous church, despite not being as ornate as some of the other examples. The outside dome and imposing columns frame the entrance gorgeously leading into a space that is filled with light. Situated on the Grand Canal, just opposite the station, the...More

We kept seeing this beautiful church walking, using the vaporetto so we decided to visit. As I said we were very impressed by the outside. I didn’t go down into the crypt because there is nothing electricity , they give you a candle

It's a beautiful church and I personally like the domed style from the inside. But the true experience of this church is the crypt. For just two euros you get and candle and go down to explore the almost completely dark crypt. It is pretty...More

Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district)
when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring
cars and buses close to the center of Venice.
Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking
Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes
with energy from travelers and students. Historic
palaces and former industrial buildings house some
departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture
