This 15th century church was not far from our hotel. It is dedicated to St Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist and the nearest vaporetto stop is San Zaccaria. They have a flooded crypt which we did not visit. We did not have the...More

Saint Zaccaria' church is located on a quiet square - campo - less than a block east of the 3 San Zaccarias boat docks from which any point in Venice can be reached. This is a restful and quiet place dedicated to the Father of...More

Lots of interesting art. Well worth visiting the museum and looking at the foundations. Has a Tiepolo.

We came here to see the flooded crypt and it was definitely worth it. It's not that big but it's cool to walk thorough water and see the church from an unusual perspective. If you're closeby, feel free to take a visit!

The altar painting of this lovely Renaissance church, "Madonna Enthroned with Saints" by Giovanni Bellini, is absolutely breathtaking. If you are, like me, either a longtime or recent fan of Bellini's work, you know that Venice is the place to see a lot of his...More

Unusual decorations inside, with grey color scheme and huge paintings that almost cover the side walls instead of chapels. Pay the custodian 1.5 Euros to go into the old chapels to see gold, a Tintoretto altarpiece, and the remains of the old pavement. From the...More

The exterior of this church is the architectural star. Beautiful Venetian early Renaissance architecture by Codussi. The interior is sadly rather dark and dingy, but it is worth entering because in my opinion, Giovanni Bellini's San Zaccaria Altarpiece is one of the most beautiful paintings...More

The paintings inside are great, particularly the beautifully colored one by Tintoretto ( what a great blue hue). In general, this church and the area in front are quiet places of reflection. Take a break from the crowds and come here and breathe.

Castello is the largest of the six sestieri

Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated
within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over
one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime
neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side
streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals
