Our group was booked into a private tour of the monastery and its treasures in the morning. Public tours are in the afternoon. I presume that the guide would also be involved in the afternoon tours. Guida was wonderful - passionate, knowledgeable and respectful of...More

A short vaparetto ride from the Grand Canal, the Armenian Monastery on San Lazzaro is well worth a visit. A guided tour is mandatory and offered in English or German. The history and culture represented by the site is impressive.

We very much enjoyed our trip to San Lazzaro. Vaporetto line 20 leaves San Zaccharia every two hours, but make sure you go to fit in with a guided tour. We caught the 15.10 departure and left again at 17.25. If you do not join...More

A short trip by Actv 20 from San Marco/San Zaccharia. Check to be on the right departure for guiding (check poster at the ferry stop). The 2. largest Armenian library after Mantenadaran in Yerevan, Armenia. The church is not Apostolic, but Chatolic. Beautiful "park" around...More

This seemed to be an island monastery museum. A great tour (once a day at 3.30, about 2 hours, suggested donation 6 euros into an unattended box) that included a church and a beautiful medieval library and also included a museum that had ancient artefacts...More

I was staying on the nearby academic conference island so decided to visit here. The "suggested donation" for the tour is 6 Euros, and they won't make change--so I was stuck putting my 20 Euro bill in the box. [I retrospect I should have announced...More

Although it's ''just'' a small church, it hides paintings from Veronese and Tintoretto and an extremely beautiful marble sculpture on the back. All this in a classical music environment. For me it's the only church where I heard classical music playing. And it's all for...More
