A trip round all 3 Borromean islands is a highlight of any holiday on Lake Maggiore and is well worth a day's effort - we took 6 hours to cover them. We used the 'belle epoche' town of Stresa as our base. Two of the...More

You have to pay 16 Euro pp for the palace & gardens - even if you only want to see the gardens! And you can see the gardens anywhere from shore or even from the cable car! Place is also full of tacky gift stalls...More

If you can visit just one island, make Madre the one! This villa is the oldest and most "lived in" - the gardens outside are gorgeous as well.

We werent sure what to expect from this, the third island on our day seeing the three Borromean Islands but it turned out to be our favourite. Gorgeous informal gardens with seats facing the lake, shade, and a lovely house (pity about puppet collection). Lovely...More

This was the first of two islands we visited. The Palazzo Borromeo on Isola Madre was larger and more impressive than this one. However, the gardens and grounds (where we saw peacocks in the wild and parakeets in an aviary) were spectacular! I suggest buying...More

So many intricate details in this palace. Move through the maze of the building, you see interesting old style European interiors with tapestries and designs.

One of my favorite Palaces in Italia. The art is amazing but the lower level is truly unique. The gardens are breathtaking esp with the views of the lake.

This is not a commonly known location but it is a highlight of any Italian tour of Italy. I’ve visited many places on Europe but this is one place I will never forget. This is a tiny island completely independent of direct land access. There...More

The palace is beautiful, but it's also incredibly busy and the tour only goes through a few rooms of the palace. It was neat to see, but I enjoyed strolling through the shops and eating lunch by the water just as much if not more....More

The Palace is beautifully maintained. The furnishings amazing. Each room has an explanation card in English which were excellent. Highly recommended. Please note that you cannot visit the garden without first walking through the Palace. The attached garden is a highlight. It takes at least...More

Exactly is in Lake Maggiore. You would go to Stressa, which is a lovely typical small Italian town. Along the center of the town, you would see the marina and there are a lot of parking spaces. You would take a 10 minute... More
