About
The "Amedeo Lia" museum is located in the old convent of the minimites of St. Francis from Paola, who settled in the town of la Spezia in about 1620. The collection includes about 1200 works of all kinds, classical, late antique, mediaeval, up to the 18th century. There are paintings, miniatures, bronze, copper, ivory and wooden statues, glassware, tin-glazed pottery and art objects which document the taste and culture of Italian and European art.

We really enjoyed our tour of the museum. So many beautiful historic and religious artifacts and works of art. You were able to get up very close and really enjoy the history. Worth the time and the very small fee to enter!

This museum has an excellent little collection, mainly North Italian painting, but of good quality and worth a look if you like that sort of thing. A few good examples of Tuscan artists like Daddi, Sassetta, Sano Di Pietro And Venetians like Vivarini, Gentile Bellini, Titian and Guardi among others. I was pleasantly surprised by the overall quality but a little uneasy because I appeared to be the only visitor and was followed round by one or other of the caretakers who occasionally had to unlock a door or turn on a light. I'd recommend it but it's a slightly unnerving experience

We opted for this visit after a particularly rainy day, we can certainly say that there is so much to see, both as works and as finds. The trouble is, despite the map, it's very easy to get lost. In addition, some rooms were particularly dark, in our opinion, which did not make the most of what was on display. Applause goes to the temporary exhibition, which, unless further extensions are made, is unfortunately coming to an end.

... is the art showed in this place. The showrooms are looking really nice and the art you see there is impressing. Disappointing for me is that almost everything is described in Italian only and you have to guess what it means. For me it is not worth paying EUR 7 for this.

If you need to escape the heat or the rain this is your best bet in La Spezia. A modest collection of art from the region of Liguria and beyond. I particularly like the collection of illuminated manuscripts and codexes. If you plan on visiting the Museo del Sigillo (museum of seals) or any other museum in La Spezia, make sure to buy the combined entrance ticket that covers most of the musuems in La Spezia for a period of 72 hours.

This Museum was just ok for me. I've been to so many museums all over Europe and this one did not offer anything new. Mostly religious art and artifacts. The museum itself is on 3 levels, so lots of stairs or use the elevator. I love art but nothing really caught my attention. It cost 7 Euros for entrance.

We were here during a heat wave. So we made sure there was some museum time during the hottest part of the day.

Nice collection of renaissance paintings. They sell a museum pass which covers six museums for a set price. Well worth buying even if you plan to visit only two of the six.

It is hard to describe this outstanding collection. The building appears very plain yet clean and ordered as any of the great museums in Rome or Florence.

The collections are less known yet we were drawn in by the detail and quality of the work. From paintings to sculpture and hand painted, gold leaf manuscripts to medallions and other work we were captivated by the interpretations from artists as far back as the 12th century.

A stand out was the ‘Mystical Allegory of the Crucifixion’. This, in one image, captures the essence of the birth, death and resurrection of Christ. Fantastico!
