Genova - La Superba.

A place with beautiful Piazzi and palazzi. With its web of small streets, daunting but comforting at the same time.
A place that feels like both the end and the beginning of civilization.

And to top It all off: Casa di Cristoforo Colombo.

If you’re looking for something grand, go see the giant jar of pesto in the airport. (Highly recommended, 5 stars!)
If you want a life changing experience, go visit the casa di Cristoforo Colombo.

3 euros - 3 rooms - 3 minutes.

Nevertheless, this visit will challenge you to reflect on how the choices you make determine your further existence.
(The reason why you came to Genova in the first place)

My life will never be the same again,
I hope you’ll feel it too.

You’re Welcome.

Columbus was born in Genoa, a fact the city is still proud of and wants to be remembered. You can visit his birth house, adjacent to the entrance to the old city. Not much to see, the entrance is € 3, but still such a memorable place, I found my contribution well spent to keep the memory alive. You can download an audio file, the whole self-tour is done in 15 minutes, but remember, historical ground.

Not very accessible. It was a very cool feeling to grasp that something huge was happening there so many years ago that changed the world!

This was our third time here in Genoa and we came here every time. This time it was closed so we couldn't get inside. But, it's OK, we've been here before so we just sat outside and admire the building.

Of all of the grand palaces in Genoa, had this not been the former home of the most famous explorer in history, I would have skipped it. It’s located just several meters from Torri di Porta Soprana. The two story house is quite small and is an 18th century reconstruction (the original house was supposedly destroyed in 1684) of the house Columbus lived in from around 1455-1470. I did not go inside, only viewed the exterior.

Columbus was born in 1451, and lived in this house near the port of Soprano from about 1455 to 1470. The inscription on the facade reads in Latin: "Nulla Domus Titulo Dignior Paternis In Aedibus Christophorus Columbus Pueritiam Primamque Juventam Transegit"- " There is no house more worthy of consideration than this, in which Christopher Columbus spent his first youth in his father's walls." The inscription misleads tourists. However, this house is not original, but a reconstruction. The real house was destroyed in the bombing of Genoa. But not by the allied air force during world war II, like everything else, but by the French fleet of the vain Louis XIV, who liked to be called the "Sun King". The entire area was destroyed. The house was restored in the XVIII century, when everyone understood the significance of Columbus for humanity...

We did seek this house out because we were interested. It has been reconstructed, but we were still happy we stopped. It has an interesting facade and it is an interesting building putting aside the history. We didn't pay to go inside, but it was still worth the visit.

I was a bit dissapointed to see this simple house but it's worth to visit it. It's located near Via Dante and Via di Porta Soprana. Next to the house you can see the courtyard of St. Andrea's monastery with pillars and columns.
