This lift is quite special. I have never used such an invention before. We had our baby in the stroller with us and it was no problem at all to fit in the lift. The price for a one-way-ticket was cheap with 0,90 EUR per...More

Not just a funicular, not just a subway, not just a lift - but all three in one unique ride. And, as with all Genoa public transport, very cheap! The Castello at the top is fascinating to walk round, with magnificent views of the city...More

A funicular that travels vertically and horizontally? Who knew? The clever Genovesi, that's who, so take a ride on this cool cable car to see exactly how it's done. And, at its top, the Castello d'Albertis is definitely worth a few hours time to see...More

This funicular railway is worth using; it runs in 2 stages, the first is up a slope where you can see the rails from the small compartment windows, the second part is straight up as the compartment ascends like a lift vertically. Cost is very...More

A lift that is both vertical and horizontal. Entrance is very close to the principe station. Well worth the 90 cents to use it. We walked to the top and got the lift down. Try it out.

I found this by accident while walking from my hotel to the port area and thought it would be nice to try and see Genoa from a higher viewpoint. The view from the top wasn’t great but the ascensore was actually really interesting. It’s not...More

I'd seen a video of this - but two of us from England had the same idea and hadn't told our partners what it did. I think the local passengers must be used to that by now. I could imagine it might feel claustrophobic if...More

Great engineering and something your not likely to see again. And, it's practical. A way to get up the hill to see the great view, the Castle and the museum. The trip on the elevator can transport you back in time when explorers left from...More

You get into a small car, that allegedly can carry 23 people! A long flat stretch is followed by a vertical ascent of some 70 metres. Very unusual. Great experience. There were engineering students at the site to learn about its function. At the top...More

It starts off as a mini tram and half way through its journey becomes a lift. A clever way to get up the hillside. Worth using just for the experience or the castle and views from the top. Not a long ride - for that...More
