Hidden gem! A fan of Leonardo Da Vinici, I had to see La Scapigliata in person and yet...there was so much more in this amazing collection of museums that make up the Pilotta. The theater was mind-blowing to view, the library impressive and the gallery that took one on a course through the palace structures...a wonderful day spent in a wonderful museum and in a lovely Italian city that just may be a hidden gem to Westerners.

We were on a brief (too brief) tour of Emilia Romagna. We love going to national museums and this is a lovely spot with very few tourists due to COvid 19. Unfortunately due to C19 many galleries were shut and we were disappointed not to get to see the beautiful Leonardo 'Scapilata'. However I got chatting to a curator/gallery assistant and she showed me the image on her PC and we had a lovely chat. She was super friendly and welcoming. Next time I am here I will definitely come back.
Worth a visit!!

This museum is housed in a former palace and although the building was being renovated during our visit, we were able to see the most part of its beautiful collection. There were unexpected gems to admire and we definitely recommend a visit!

My favorites were: Head of a Woman by Leonardo da Vinci, colossal sculptures of Hercules and Bacchus, Christ Healing the Blind by El Greco and Madonna and Child with Saints by Beato Angelico. A single combined ticket for 10 euros gets one access to the National Gallery, the Farnese Theater and the Archaeological Museum. All three are worth seeing.

The National Gallery in Parma is in a huge palazzo and spread out all over the place. It's in the same building as the Faranese Theatre. To visit it all would take the better part of a day.
The collection itself is excellent.

The gallery is very large but worth seeing. It has a Leonardo (this part of the museum opens at 10:00 am). The Pinacoteca when the renovations are finally finished will be a fine picture gallery.

Really a disappointment for the lack of honesty and transparency of the Museum Management. We arrived today at the Museum and to my great surprise and that of the group of Leonardo enthusiasts from Canada, Holland, the United States and Brazil having reached the room where Leonardo's Scapigliata should be on display we found an empty wall. No information, but the official who supervises the hall told us that the jewel of the Museum has been lent for the Show at the Louvre. At the Exit we asked for explanations at the ticket office recommending that we put a warning for future visitors also on the website. The lady at the ticket office told us how she was expressly instructed by Director Simone Verde to not alert any visitors.
