Filled with cobblestones through the center square. The two main thoroughfares will bring you here to this center point of town. This Piazza is surrounded by shops, restaurants and the main visual attraction the Duomo di Modena and, yes, it is leaning.

Piazza Grande was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997 for a good reason. It is one of the most graceful and harmonious piazzas in Italy, in my opinion. Magnificent 12th century Duomo di Modena, tall bell tower, Ghirlandina, elegant facade of the Palazzo...More

Another beautiful piazza in Italy. We were there on a Sunday, hence not as much activity. I could see lots of shops that were closed since it was Sunday. The architecture was amazing and I am sure it comes to life in the evening.

If you come to Modena you will probably find yourself here at some stage. We’d entered the duomo at the front and stepped out the side door straight into the Grande Piazza. About 20 years ago it was made a UNESCO heritage site.UNESCO heritage site

The main square of the area outside the Duomo is surrounded by forgettable bars and cafes but is a pleasure to stroll around in nice weather

We were walking the shopping streets of Modena & found this attractive piazza. Not a huge amount to see but plenty of shops & restaurants in the streets running off it.

Not far from the markets this piazza is typically beautiful, of note on the south side of the chapel is memorial to the fallen. Ceramic plaques with their images adorns the wall. Given Modena’s military connection (the Military College) it is well worth going to...More

A short walk from the train station, and the most important square in town, with the cathedral on one side with the Ghirlanidia tower, and the palazzo communale on another side. So a concentration of the religious and worldly powers in one square, as often...More
