This Michaelangelo masterpiece is thankfully not moved into the museum, thus grabbing maximum eyeballs Beautiful sculpture depicting Jesus's body on Mother Mary's lap after being taken down from the crucifix.

It is easy to walk past the entry to La Pieta as it is immediately to your right as you enter the basilica. It is behind a screened off area. So look out for it. The sculpture like most other Michael Angelo works is rather...More

Our kids were excited to see this because they had studied it in school. Worth seeing. The detail in the piece carved from one piece of marble is amazing.

The statue itself commands 5 stars, but the crowded area suggests less stars. La Pieta is a wonder to behold.

This statue of the dead Christ on the lap of his mother is one of the most beautiful of Michelangelo's works. Sadly it's now behind bullet proof glass in the Vatican's St. Peter's basilica.

This was the highlight of St Peter's for me. Utterly gorgeous, fluid, human and so, so sad. The face of the Madonna is heartbreaking.

It's one of the greatest masterpieces of Micel Angelo and even if you have seen it thousands of times in printed albums or in the intrenet, seeing La Pieta is am experience, that you should not miss.

We saw la Pieta whilst in St.Peters Basilica. It is behind Protective glass and is very hard to get up close. I wouldn’t spend too much time trying to get close to it as there are many other great pieces of artwork around the Vatican....More
