This area located next to the Colosseum was home to stables, barracks and gladiatorial training grounds. Access to the Colosseo was via an underground passageway. The ruins seen at the excavation is part of the large barracks.

Ludus Magnus is the archaeological site where the old Gladiatorial Training School used to be in ancient times. Quite an interesting site, which you can view from the street.

These ruins are very interesting, we were surprised to find them while looking for some lunch. If you have time take a look, not far off the back side of the Colosseum.
