Ludus Magnus is the archaeological site where the old Gladiatorial Training School used to be in ancient times. Quite an interesting site, which you can view from the street.

When visiting the Colossuem it is worth taking a few minutes to visit the remains of the nearby Ludus Magnus. These semi circular ruins can be viewed from the street and form part of what was once the gladiatorial training centre and barracks for the...More

These ruins are found just outside the colosseum , nothing special is marking their location. The site only takes a few minutes to see but I would recommend it to see the insight of the gladiators way of life

This area across from the Colosseum was a gladiatorial training and warm up area, is easily accessed and is free to view. It was connected to the Colosseum via a tunnel

These ruins are very interesting, we were surprised to find them while looking for some lunch. If you have time take a look, not far off the back side of the Colosseum.

This is across the street from the Colosseum. I didn't know about this site, and accidentally found it while I was walking round the neighbourhood (where I stayed in an Airbnb). I wouldn't suggest coming all the way to see this particular site, but since...More

We found this site quite by accident when exploring close to our hotel. This review is not actually about the Ludus Magnus...but about the small gelato shop opposite it on Via San Giovanni in Laterano. Really good selection of gelato and really cheap in comparison...More

This site was a large gladiator training school, connected by an underground passage to the Colosseum. You can still make out the curve of a training arena, as well as what would have been small rooms used by the gladiators. Worth a quick look if...More
