- AdewaleLagos, Nigeria747 contributionsEver-bubblyOne of the many famous landmarks in Rome. Pantheon is ever-bubbly, with multiple restaurants, shops, an ice cream spot etc all around it. The interior of the church building it houses is also beautiful. Definitely must-see place.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 March 2023
- missrachelgreenSheffield, United Kingdom31 contributionsMagnificent buildingFree to enter and a short wait to get inside, its worth a visit for sure! But some of the other churchs type religious buildings in the area are much grander inside so make sure to visit lots more! Restaurants surrounding it are expensive so walk further afield for cheaper options.Visited March 2023Written 25 March 2023
- ShashaChino Valley, Arizona395 contributionsAwe inspiringA former Roman temple, since 609 CE, a Catholic church. This iconic site with its open ‘eye’ is beautiful and a must-see when in Rome. This incredible building never fails to awe me. The engineering accomplished at the time it was built impresses me every time I see the Pantheon.Visited January 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 March 2023
- u-amandaDurban, South Africa70 contributionsFantastic siteSo glad we were able to visit the Pantheon, it was one of the highlights of our trip. When visiting over the weekend, you will need to book your visiting time slot online. There is no entry fee. We paid for audioguides which were well worth it.Visited March 2023Written 28 March 2023
- ViktorMontreal, Canada109 contributionsBeautiful ancient architecture. Hard to believe how old it is.The Pantheon is a remarkable feat of ancient engineering and a testament to the ingenuity of the Roman Empire. The majestic dome, intricate details, and natural light create an atmosphere that is simply breathtaking. Be sure to take a moment to appreciate the oculus and the tombs of important figures such as Raphael. It is free to enter and even if there is a line, usually moves pretty quickly. I booked a tour with a guide, which made everything a lot more interesting.Visited March 2023Written 28 March 2023
- HansKwadendamme, The Netherlands2,917 contributionsBeautiful Romen templeBecause of being changed from pagan temple into a Christian church, this beautiful building still exists, and for more than 1.900 years. Build by Roman Emperor Hadrian in the second century AD with some additions made but still very impressive. Inside are two Italian kings buried, aswell as the painter Raphael. As it can be extremely crowded, come at opening hour, at 09.00h and you can just walk in.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 31 March 2023
- Gill HHarrow, United Kingdom151 contributionsJust stunningHighly recommended. It is free to go on but be aware there is likely to be queues (they do move very quickly). The building is a wonderful survival from the time of Hadrian (1900 years old). It is an incredible feat of engineering and owes its survival to being turned from a pagan temple to the church. Interestingly the internal ceiling panels were once coated with bronze and gold but they were removed to be used in the building of the Vatican basilica. Rafael and 2 kings of Italy are buried inside. Apparently the massive doors are original. Just beautiful.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 April 2023
- April S44 contributionsBeautiful ArchitectureI had read that there may be a long line but it moves quickly. That was absolutely the case. We were able to go in, see the beautiful art and architecture and move on. We are so glad we stopped to check it out.Visited March 2023Written 2 April 2023
- Terry MHamilton, Canada4,647 contributionsAN ARCHITECTURAL GEM NOW A PLACE OF RESTStill an architectural marvel two millenia later, Marcus Agrippa made sure you knew he built it. It is still the largest unreinfoced concrete dome in the world. Two Italian kings are buried here: Vittorio Emanuele II and Umberto I. The great painter Raphael was the first artist buried in the structure, also known as Santa Maria ad Martyres.Visited March 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 3 April 2023
- Sally SMartinez, California13 contributionsHistory and beautyI was not going to enter, but my friend really wanted to go and I am so glad I did. It is overwhelming when I entered the structure to think of the history and all that has happened in this spot. And beautiful, spiritual, on and on. I highly recommend a stop.Visited March 2023Written 3 April 2023

A very impressive building. Perfectly proportioned and a large and spectacular space. Late afternoon today the natural light on the front was magical and inside the ceiling is looking magnificent.

For those interested in art and architecture, the Pantheon is a must-see. The place was crowded but it was worth it. Don't forget to look up and feel the light pouring in – it's a truly divine sight:)

The Rome Pantheon is a must see. Reserve access by web site well in advance (17Euro for a quick access and audio tour). The Piazza della Rotonda is quite full in the afternoon. The Pantheon was first a Roman Temple, then it became a Catholic Cathedral ( named Saint Maria ad Martyres). Impressive oculus in the center of the dome .

The Pantheon is nearly 2,000 years old and still intact. The artwork and interior detail are simply astonishing.
We went for the Christmas Eve mass, which was in Italian. We waited in line for about an hour and they started to allow us all in once the service begun. Slightly cold inside but worth the wait.
The dome is magnificent. The opening at the top of the dome (oculus) is almost 30 feet across and allows for a source of light. Highly recommend visiting when in Rome.

I recently had a highly disappointing experience at Pantheon store on January 6, 2024. The unprofessional behavior of a staff member led to the early closure of the shop at 15:40. I was the first person in line, and the lady with short hair and square glasses repeatedly asked me to wait, using the excuse of retrieving a audio guide device. There was no one waiting behind me, yet she kept asking if the people behind me had return the audio guide. I waited for a long time, didn't buy anything, and left without saying anything. The staff immediately cleared all the products from the counter. I simply took out my phone, and the staff member suddenly came over and made a scene, saying not to take pictures of people working, as it is illegal, and threatened to report me if I posted anything online. I was quite surprised by the staff member's overreaction. If you plan to shop at Pantheon, make sure to go early and be cautious of this lady intentionally causing trouble for customers.

This is an amazing place and experience. Tip though, book early, and don't be fooled by the line 'skip the queue' the only queue you skip is the queue to purchase the ticket, other than that you queue for at least an hour or more, no fun in the rain or the heat with a teenager.

The Pantheon is a masterpiece of Roman engineering and architecture. Its iconic dome and oculus create a celestial ambiance, capturing the essence of ancient Rome. The interior's harmony and grandeur make it a unique and spiritually resonant experience. A must-visit, immersing you in the eternal beauty of Roman history.

Spectacular and important monument. Absolutely “worth a journey” and a must see cultural site in Rome.
As a result it’s crowded. Staff are patient and helpful which is amazing considering the number of visitors and the POORLY RUN TICKETING SYSTEM THAT DOES NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS AFTER YOU SPEND 10 MINUTES FILLING OUT UNNECESSARY INFO and then blows up. We bought a ticket in person from the box office finally - another friend in line had an Italian family take pity on him and they simply bought a ticket and gave it to him, a very kind and typically Roman gesture.
Beware the nasty English speaking guides hustling you for a 15 Euro tour on the plaza, they are pushy and horrible.

hi, i have a question regarding the Christmas mass : is it free or should i buy the ticket for it? if so, where can i buy the ticket ?

Hi, I am not sure about the mass but you buy tickets to enter the Pantheon either on-line or at the Pantheon itself. One stops you having to queue! It is worth going on-line to the Pantheon to check when you can buy the tickets and the price

I understand that you need a ticket to enter and pay for the audio guide as well.
Is the audio guide worth it?
Also do you need to line up with a ticket puchase then proceed to collect audio guide?

The day we went it was ticket entry only (normally free entry). So, while waiting outside, we quickly booked a "tour" (Viator) which included entry and audio tour and was very reasonably priced.
So we were able to just walk in and enjoy the audio tour as well, which was excellent and very informative.
Bonjour , je dois visiter le panthéon dans quelque jours j'ai vu sur le site de réservation que les shorts et débardeur était interdit, pouvez vous me confirmer ? Avec la canicule en ce moment.

Can you tell me, if I book the audioguide do I need to wait in line or can I walk up and enter briefly before my booking time?
Thanks!

Only on weekends do you need reservations. I wouldn't use an audio guide. If you do they are picked up right inside the doors. We went on a Tuesday and the line was long ti get in but still only a 5min wait to get in.

How do you get to attend mass on a Sunday

We visited Pantheon on Sunday morning just before mass. I’m not sure if you need to book or reserve to attend mass. I can recommend a private guide, it was worth every penny. Serena Cantagalli tours. She was an angel and showed us around Pantheon , St Angelo and Trastavere. Enjoy your trip.

We would like to visit the Pantheon in Oct. I keep hearing that a green pass is required to enter. The confusing part is that I've read that green passes is only issued to those who are vaccinated in Italy. We are coming from the states. What can we do?

Show your CDC card or your digital version of it. We were vaccinated at Walmart and we got digital versions of the CDC cards. The only problem with the digital version is that it has a QR code that is not compatible with the devices in EU, so when they scan it, it does not show validity. The way we overcame this is by asking them to read the digital version. This worked. We went everywhere with our digital version.

The Pantheon re-opened on Feb 1, 2021. It is currently open to visitors Monday - Friday from 9:00 to 19:00. It is closed weekends.
You really should visit the travel forums section of this website - specifically the Italy and Rome travel forums. There is a lot of good information there about the current state of COVID-19 in Italy and what is opened / closed at the present time since it can change based on the COVID-19 numbers.
