Very useful convenient transport up and down the hill. Normally plenty of space to sit, easy to use and cheap (included with our 3 day artecard)

It would have been a very different stay with out this wonderful little train. It's very cheap and easy to use, but remember to be back just before 10 as that's it till the next day. It's only a 5 minute walk to the Metro.

This funicular is one of four in Naples and takes the strain of walking up and down some serious hills. Cheap to use and works most of the time, occasionally out of service so be prepared.

Tried to use the railway but it is out of service. Mind you the city is derelict so no surprise there.

Tricky to manage if you don't speak Italian, but really it's not that hard

So we found that not all trains stop at all stations. Had a hysterically funny ride to the top, but was reassured by the driver and a local that on the way back down the hill we could access our station and hotel. Best to remember the name of your stop, but more importantly, read the monitors. Great views.

To Top at Naples
May 2016 • Couples
The Mergellina Funicular, is a local funicular railway line that forms part of the public transport system for the city of Naples, Italy. Opened in 1931, the Mergellina Funicular was the fourth, and most recent, cable railway opened in Naples. The Mergellina Funicular connects five stations: Manzoni station, Parco Angelina station, San Gioacchino station, San Antonio station, and Mergellina station. Unlike Naples' other three funicular lines which all reach Vanvitelli, the Mergellina line is located on its own, farther to the northwest, and runs uphill from the marina at Mergellina Sanazzarro to Manzoni, where Line 6 of the Naples Metro can be reached by a short walk. Spectacular views from the top and make nice pictures!!!

A great way to go up and down the town without too much effort!

Try the Funicolare in Naples , there are several ones next to each other. Sometimes the building is bit hidden. You can use your daily transport pass in there. Children (at least till 7) are free on public transport. We asked many times and we were always told he didnt need to pay (on bus, funicolare and metro). He went under the gates! So this funicolare journey is a short one but it takes you in a few minutes up the hill and after a walk round the city it is a welcome break. You can seat at the front of the funicolare and view the streets up the side. A nice way to go round the city.

Better Than Taxi Or Walking Up Steep Streets
Jul 2015 • Couples
This Funicular is in a great spot on Via Mergellina near restaurants and harbor. There is a stop right above Best Western, Paradiso Hotel. It comes by every 10 minutes. It only cost 1 Euro. You can't even get into a taxi for that amount and there it is almost impossible to walk up the narrow streets as they are long, steep and winding up hill. This funicular runs until 10 PM.
