Constantly busy with taxis and buses and numerous ticket office4s for the various destinations. Fascinating to sit, drink and watch.Visited May 2023Written 14 June 2023

Ate dinner here both times, Porta Marina seafood was an excellent restaurant that we would definitely recommend. The harbour is lined with authentic fish restaurants overlooking the fishing boats on the sea, there's a small volcanic sand beach, a couple of posher looking restaurants on jetties sticking out in the sea, then there's Vesuvius across the bay. It's a very picturesque place to watch the sunset over the sea on a clear evening, we were lucky to see a magnificent sunset from the wide steps leading back up to town, with kayakers sailing on the water, magical ❤️.Visited June 2023Travelled with familyWritten 20 June 2023

On this visit we got to visit the church along the walk way...Chiesa di Sant'Anna. There are a lot of shops, restaurants with inside and outside dining options and fishing going on at this Marina. It is also a site to behold at the various hotels along the hillside with paths leading up to them from the Marina. There are also great views during the day and especially in evening when dining of across the bay of Mt. Vesuvius. It is always an easy stroll down to the Marina but take your time to climb your way back up to the main center of Sorrento. Be careful on this walk, since areas are uneven and lots of different pavements and winding corners.Visited October 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 September 2023
- aidanquinn74Dublin, Ireland35 contributionsA wonderful scenic areaThere are a multitude of avenues to explore her. It is awash with highly regarded restaurants, both high end and local favourites. The views are incredible and worth the effort as there are lots of steps to negotiate on the journey. There is a steep incline to work through on the return leg so comfy shoes are recommended. We dined in Soul & Fish (see seperate review) and I highly recommend it. Evening time is the best time to visit, I would suggest timing your visit with the setting of the sun, spectacular!!Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 September 2023
- DaveMalvernGreat Malvern, United Kingdom80 contributionsThe best part of SorrentoPeople on here are still getting their marinas in a twist! This is not the port from where the ferries depart, it's at the other end of town. It's a pleasant walk from Sorrento centre through narrow streets with views across the bay here and there, down a fairly steep slope and into the marina itself. There is a bus service to and from Piazza Tasso if you don't fancy the walk. There are several bars and resturants (our favourite being Portamarina), a couple of shops, several bagni and a small public beach which is free to use, you only pay for sunbeds/chairs and parasols. It's a genuine fishing port and you can see the catch being landed each evening. There are also several places offering paddleboarding, diving and boat trips. It's our favourite part of the town and we strongly recommend that you don't miss it.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 September 2023

A great place to visit and to have a drink around. Lots of options of places to eat and drink. Beach clubs are available but be careful as shade can hit some early afternoon.
Finally be prepared for steps - there is a lot to go back up!!!

This is a harbour cum beach and a fishing village downhill from Sorrento town. A good place for a leisurely stroll along the sea. You can get beautiful views of the harbour by a climb up the old stone staircase which after a walk through some beautiful shops and souvenir street connects to the town center Piazza Tasso. The beach itself has a number of authentic italian cafes and restaurents

Directions from Tasso to marina grande

From Pizza Tasso, go down Via S. Francesco, past the Villa Communale, to the park in front of the Hotel Contential.
There is a road that goes down on the right side of the hotel and that will lead you down to the Marina.
It is a lot to see down there...go & enjoy!!

We want to have our last meal of a fantastic 2 week holiday in Marina Grande. Which restaurant does anyone recommend?. Not fine dining. Mainly fish. Usual restaurant prices not too pricey just what you would expect to pay for the quality. Hope that makes sense. Family of four 2 teenagers2 adults thank you in advance

Walk from piazza Tasso to Marina Grande
Hello I have visited Sorrento twice but never been to Marina Grande. We want to go to Ristorante Bagni Delfino - can anybody tell me the best way to walk from Piazza Tasso in the evening? Thank you
GlasGal549
East Kilbride, UK641 contributions
Hello there, from the Piazza Tasso you can either walk along Corso Italia (the main road) or down 'the drains' Via. S. Cesareo and Via Fuoro. At the end if the drains you will see a few paths that lead down to the Marina Grande. Further along just passed the hospital on the right there is also a road (via de mare) down to the Marina. The road maybe an easier walk however beware of traffic. Otherwise get a taxi. Hotels may be able to provide you with a map which would help.

Are there local boats that make trips to the Amalfi coast and Positano, and what is the cost?we are visiting in December. Is it worth visiting the Blue Grotto in winter?

We have just come back from Sorrento. They do boat trips to capri all year round, weather permitting and when you are on the boat they offer you an add on if you want a tour or see the blue grotto. It was about 20e each way for the boat to Capri and then about 40e for the tour and blue grotto. other blue grotto boats are in Capri so might be able to get it cheaper. We couldn't find a boat from sorrento to anywhere else( We wanted to go to positano) and were told they only operate up to mid October. There are private tour companies that might do it though but more costly. We went to positano by bus and was very easy. for 8€ you can get a day ticket and you can make unlimited journies to Amalfi coast, what ever towns you want to go too. This leaves from outside the station. We got to positano in under an hour and the journey was really interesting and you got to see all the sights.

I've read in a review that there is a lift from the marina to the top so one can avoid the walk ,at a cost of 1 euro . is this true?

Donde hay una playa para disfrutar el baño en el mar?

There are some places near the marina to swim. But there are no classic beaches with sand because it´s a coastal cliff.
You can book a trip to Ischia. There ist the famous Marontio Beach.

how do you make dinner reservations? I can't seem to find any email or phone

Hi, sorry not answer before. Normally I look up the restaurant e-mail addresses. Then I send an e-mail asking for a booking. Important to do this many weeks before. When we get in contact it is easy to make a reservation.
Best regards
Gunnar
