An absolute treasure trove of history. The collection is extensive and incredibly interesting. First impression is a bit overwhelming but it’s incredible how much has been preserved of each of the original trades, including a priest’s room! It also shows a traditional home. Donate is...More

Set in caves joined together you get a sense of the life lived in the Sassi and of the trades required to support it. Much better than the small caves you pay to go in to see the bed etc. You have to accept that...More

It is one man’s collection, but rich and diverse and telling a story that could so easily be lost. Worth a visit along with the other larger and more professional museums in the city.

You can spend at least one hour in this interesting museum. Exibition of old professions, of which some still exist. Exposed in a beautifull cavehouse. Well preserved

Incredibly informative and filled with artifacts of the true life of the people of the Sassi. Donato filled our imaginations with the reality that was Matera. He has studied the history and knows the stories personally. Great guided experience.
