Happened to be in town on The Feast of Christ the King when the Botafumeiro was swung. The pomp and ceremony surrounding the occasion needs to be seen to be believed.

we were fortunate enough to get to witness the swing of the Botafumeiro. unfortunately this is only swung at certain times. If you ask at the Cathedral when it is going to swing unfortunately they can not tell you

If you haven’t seen it, you must. It occurs at the noon mass in the cathedral and is sponsored usually upon and by a group of pilgrims ending their Camino. There is a cost involved to sponsor, but an incredible site.

Attended the mass at 7.30 pm after our tiring walk. We were all tired but was uplifted when we knew that we will be able to watch the swinging of the Botafumeiro. Thank you Lord

The botafumeiro doesn't go at every mass but if you are lucky enough to be there when it does, make sure to see it. So unique. Watch on YouTube if you can.

Agree you should be on one of the sides. Front rows are less obstructed but to get full view of swing over your head, further back might be better.

My understanding is that this is part of the "Pilgrims' Mass" so look for the schedule of the Pilgrims' Mass. The Pilgrim Mass is usually held daily at 12 noon at the high alter in Santiago de Compostela Cathedral, as well... More

You dont need tickets, is part of the mass. Every Fryday at 19:30 or when somebody makes an offering.
