The square is a lovely place to visit on the way to Girona Cathedral - there are plenty of benches to sit on so a visit here doesn't have to cost a lot. The gelato is lovely if you fancy something refreshing that won't break...More

Visited Girona with my family for annual holiday, was not disappointed. Everything about Plaça de la Independencia was pleasing from the many restaurants to my favourite ice cream shop - la Bombonera - yum yum

This is the large central square, across the river from the old quarter. The restaurants vary from low to mid level, prices are right. There is also (of course) gelato.

Great for taking some sun, drinks, ice cream and various tapas restaurants. Always has a lively atmosphere and great for people watching

A nice place to sit and have a drink or eat an ice cream. Plenty of bars situated in the shade of the arcades.

There are benches to sit around this square with a lovely statue that is the focal point of the plaza. Restaurants border each side of the square, but we didn't eat here. We stopped to rest before crossing the river to the old town.

I confess to preferring the winding cobbled streets on the other side of the river, but this is a great easy place to eat and people watch. Lots of cocktail opportunities too.
