Overview
More
The Museu del Disseny de Barcelona is the city's museum devoted to the arts of the object and to design. The new centre is the result of merging the collections of four Barcelona museums: the Museu de les Arts Decoratives (devoted to the decorative arts and industrial design), the Museu de Ceràmica (ceramics), the Museu Tèxtil i d'Indumentària (textile and clothing) and the Gabinet de les Arts Gràfiques (graphic arts). Clearly, then the common denominator amongst all these collections and between yesterday and today is the object and everything that it signifies or has signified and the contribution it has made: from its conception, creation and production to its use according to epoch and society, both at the craft and preindustrial periods and in the industrial or digital age. The new museum conserves heritage comprising more than 70,000 objects traditionally classified under the name of decorative or applied arts. These pieces, which range in date from the fourth century AD to the present, include such unique, internationally-famed collections as those of medieval fabrics, sixteenth-century Catalan enamelled glass and ceramic from Alcora, amongst others.

All in one museum and I love this concept. Unlike Madrid, all its decorative arts museums are scattered throughout but here they are all in the same building. Fashion was my top favorite but the very dim lighting hurt my eyes. Yes, I know the...More

Last year when I was in Barcelona, I went to check out this museum (it was not yet built when I was in Barcelona on previous occasions). There was no special exhibition at that time, so I visited the permanent exhibitions on furniture/design, posters, etc....More

There were really friendly staff who gave you personal reccomendations and the tickets were great because they lasted for two days. They showed all kinds of designs in just four floors

Nice museum if you are interested in design. Entrance for first sundays of every month is free all day. We enjoyed all the permanent exhibitions but temporary exhibitions were closed so i guess they ask to be paid for them.

The nearest metro station to Museu del Disseny is Glories. Just in front of the entrance to the museum passes tram lines 4, 5 and 6 and the stop is close by. We bought our senior tickets to the design museum for 4 euros each...More

The place has some really nice temporary collections from design field (products to clothes, etc). Arrange at least 1,5 hours to go through some of the important parts of the exhibitions. Also the tickets is comparatively cheap.
