The Basilica of the Sagrada Familia is a monumental church devoted to the Holy Family: Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Construction began in 1882, based on plans drawn up by the architect Francisco de Paula del Villar, and Antoni Gaudi was commissioned to continue the project in 1883. The Temple has always been an expiatory church, built only from donations. As Gaudi said: "The Expiatory Church of the Sagrada Familia is made by the people and is mirrored in them. It is a work that is in the hands of God and the will of the people." In 2010, Pope Benedict XVI consecrated the site as a minor basilica.

A definite must-see when in Barcelona. Not sure there is a day or time when this is not busy, so do yourself a favor and book ahead. I was interested in the best light for photographs so went in the afternoon and wasn't disappointed. We...More

I would highly recommend visiting this Basilica in Barcelona. We had a wonderful experience and would also recommend "Barcelona Day Tours" with Joseph as your guide. It was a perfect way to learn all about it. Get the "skip the line" tickets too!

Beautiful church, seems that every time you look at it from a different angle you discover something different! So detailed! Thoroughly enjoyed it, only wish we had time to go inside and do the tour.

I did not know there was an elevator ... and we did not go in because of the big column. We bought souvenirs from shops and vendors who were there We were about an hour and a half no more

This has to be the best Cathedral/Church I have ever been to , the architecture is absolutely amazing, I’m not religious but and you don’t need to be to enjoy this wonderful building, which is huge and still being built.

I visited 10 years ago, and again this fall. WOW! what a change, and it is spectacular. Make sure you 1) buy your tickets online; 2) go to the basement to see the museum- it highlights what inspired Gaudi's design's and the building makes "more...More

The basilica remains unfinished. It is scheduled to be finished in 2026 which is the 100th anniversary of Antoni Gadi’s death. Gali is the original architect and inspiration of the project. It’s absolutely beautiful and well worth the visit. The architecture is unusual and breathtaking....More

We visited during a quick stay, so we were just doing the hop-on, hop-off bus. We hopped off for this, and walked around the outside. Truly amazing! If we make it to Barcelona again I'd love to see the inside!

So beautiful on the inside. Loved the natural light through stained glass windows. We had skip the line tickets so no waiting in line. Combined this with e-bike tour.

We purchased the ticket via official website and faced no problems while doing it in English. Regarding food and drink its not allowed but they do have a dispensing machine inside near the third facade. Thanks
