We went here with our tour group having been told that we would be "visiting a traditional steel factory and gaining a cultural insight into this historical craft". Perhaps we should have received more information. I'm thinking of seeing the famous swords handcrafted, what a...More

Toledo was and is famous for its steel swords, knives, and inlaid jewelry. At the Damascene you get a brief tour of the way the swords and inlay is made and then you are taken to their sales shop. Lots of beautiful items to purchase.

The workmanship is superb and they are very creative. He was decorating a small bowl when we were there. Unfortunately it has become a tourist trap with very pushy sales personnel. I found earrings (which was what I was looking for) cheaper elsewhere.

I asked the lady for a pair of "good" scissors- not tourist ones. She gave me the same ones that I considered touristy. The were gold colored which started flaking off with use.

This place is a bit expensive but get stuff of the famous Damascene steel. The jewelry and the figurettes that you see are wonderful.

You actually get to see the craftsman working on small intricate pieces in the studio workshop! The gift shop has a wide variety of items available from the quite expensive hand-crafted pieces to others that are machine made and much more affordable.

Went here whilst we were in Toledo, to see if we could find some interesting jewellery to take back home as souvenirs. There were some men sitting doing the intricate metal beating in the store, so we were able to see first hand how it's...More
