One of the surviving gateways from the original city defences, this is steeped in history and very well worth visiting on the northern fringes of the old town in Toledo. The gate is of Moorish origin, but the main part was built in 1559 by...More

We entered the gate with our guide. The rooms inside were large and well lighted. We ascended steep steps to the roof where we looked over the roof tops of Toledo. Our guide pointed out various historic buildings and elaborated on the history and modern...More

Our route from the hotel took us past this gateway which, centuries ago, defined the city boundaries and controlled access to the city. It's worth crossing the road and exploring inside, to gain a sense of Toledo's impressive history.

What a wonderful entrance to this ancient city, full of history, narrow streets and cobbled alleyways flanked by magnificent buildings. There are other magnificent ancient gateways, the others being Puerta del Sol, just a few hundred metres along the road, Puerta del Cambrón and Puerto...More

Not that there are any shortages of photo opportunities, nearly every few steps you take, this is also one of them. A beautiful entrance to the city. The Tuesday market takes place nearby.

The old town of Toledo is easily walkable, and if you plot your course well, you can incorporate this gate, as well as the Puerto del Sol and others. They are fascinating reminders of the towns history, and are impressive to behold. Enjoy.

This gate was originally built by the Arabs in the 10th century and rebuilt in 1559. Two mammoth circular towers stand at the outer gate and two commanding towers at the inner gate with a plaza between. The stone arch is crowned by a huge...More

You have to stop off here and check out the main old gate into Toledo when you visit. There a few gates but this one is the best.

This well preserved entrance to Toledo cannot be missed. Take the time to walk (if you can) from the car park at the bus station - quite steep. Your alternatives are taxis and the 'over-rated' hop-on-hop off bus.
