An unusual structure that doesn't immediately convey who or what it is commemorating. The setting within the Jardin de Murillo is good but it really looks oddly out of place.

If you’re walking the beautiful park, it’s certainly worth a visit. Nice fountain, with a lion at the top trying to figure out how he got there, as for Columbus’s ship harpooned by two columns half way up doesn’t exactly work for me, but put...More

This is a very nice monument and fountain. Located in the large gardens. Well worth the trip from the castle and cathedral area to see it.

Monumento a Colón features twin columns topped by a lion with its paw on a globe, the Spanish empire’s symbol. I’ve seen the same symbol in Saint Augustine, Florida, at the Bridge of Lions. Now I know the purpose of those felines☺ The columns are...More
