It got off to a bad start as our group of cruisers were left waiting for an hour at Dusseldorf airport before a cruise rep turned up to get us on to the coach. And it ended badly - not their fault - because the...More

Incompetent tour managers, penny-pinching company and surly waiters.
If you don’t want to experience the above, then steer clear of Riviera travel in general and MS Emily Bronte in particular.
For example; Expensive prescription sun-glasses left on a coach after an excursion. Coach company confirmed...More
We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience after having reservations about the long coach journey. Plenty of stops with ferry crossing and overnight in Ypes made it part of the holiday. The driver was brilliant throughout. We didn't have to lift our cases from the moment...More

The stretch of the river from Rudesheim to Koblenz is just spectacular. Many castles and churches, not to mention the vineyards. We were on a cruise from Basel to Amsterdam, and this stretch of the river was definitely one of the highlights.
Fantastic way to see castle after castle set in breathtaking scenery. Lots of vinyards and old towns too. Our Ship the Emerald Skye was just great; going slow because the water was low it took 4 hours to navigate the Gorge. Great view from the...More

Rüdesheim is a small town but perfect for one night. I cruised the Rhine gorge on a cruise ship and wished I could be driving it instead. A 3 hour cruise is not a bad idea but the villages look so quaint as you pass that you will probably wish you had driven too. If you want to stop and really see these towns, I would go by car and take your time. The views of the castles and churches will be closer and you can always shoot pictures of the opposite bank. The best views are high up looking down at the gorge. If you see a road that goes up - I would explore it!
