We didn't know what this facility would be like, but given that it has UNESCO World Heritage status, we thought it would be worth a look. It's a magnificent repurposing of the old coal mining/briquetting complex. The day we visited, it was swelteringly hot; had...More

The museum is very interesting to tour. Big open spaces left basically left untouched from when it was in operation. Would have gotten a significantly higher rating if all of the information signs hade been written in both English as well as German.

Huge area with a lot to see and open 24 hours for free. The industrial complex is well maintained and well worth a visit.

This is the one and only place in Essen. If you stop over, this world heritage is a must visit on your list. I you have time try the torch tour through the old facilities. Loving it!

A nice way to show inhabitants and visitors the looks and feels of the brown area of Germany, the Ruhrgebiet. It lacks though life, and points of interest. This explains the spare only visitors one comes across in the area.

Not a typical museum. Be prepared for a lot of walking if you wanna see it all. Lots of things to see, read and learn.

An interesting site. Can't t see the important inner parts, other than the outer architecture, without a tour. A duration of about 2 hrs. 9.5euros. Access to inside the buildings is only assured with a guide. Expressive, impressive, not to be missed while in the...More

One of the best areas of Essen for tourism, where you can find the Red Dot Design Museum and the old massive mining structures, with a magnificent museum inside.
