This may be worth a quick look if you are already there but not a destination. It is essentially a window in the floor that looks upon an empty white room with empty bookshelves. The meaning is fine as it represents the burned books by...More

Please if you are in the area, stop at the memorial representing the first book burning. A chilling reminder of this dark era in history. The room is easier to see when it is not full sun/daylight.

Sad to see such a historic location memorialized only to be dirty cloudy and hard to see in the day light. Disappointing.

Went during the day and the dirty glass combined with the sun made it impossible to see anything below the glass.

Do go to the Babelplatz (& see the Neue Wache also as it is nearby). There is a very clever memorial in the ground (or rather below the ground) of empty library bookshelves to remember the Nazi book-burning. Very poignant, but hard to see and...More

In Bebelplatz square you wouldn't even notice this memorial as it's not sign-posted, but you will stumble across it as you walk the cobblestones in the square, suddently a transparent glass pane will appear at your feet. When you look into it, it's white bookshelves...More

In the middle of the platz there is a peephole down into an empty library as a memorial to all the book burning during the 1930s...

This important monument can easily be missed by anyone, even upon entering the square. It is in memory of the horrendous Jewish book burning done by the Nazis in the early stages of their regime. The monument is quite simple, which makes it even more...More

This memorial has a powerful message, and I think one of the amazing things about it is that it is easy to miss. Well worth a visit

Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights
like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum
Island. The central location makes this one of the
city's most expensive places to live. It is here the
oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence
of some significant transformations, as well. The
gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets
between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given
