The Berlin Wall Memorial is the central memorial site of German division, located in the middle of the capital. Situated at the historic site on Bernauer Strasse, it extends along 1.4 kilometers of the former border strip. The memorial contains the last piece of Berlin Wall with the preserved grounds behind it and is thus able to convey an impression of how the border fortifications developed until the end of the 1980s. The events that took place here together with the preserved historical remnants and traces of border obstacles on display help to make the history of Germany's division comprehensible to visitors. The memorial is part of the Berlin Wall Foundation, which also includes the Marienfelde Refugee Center Museum, the central site dedicated to the history of flight and emigration in divided Germany. MOBILE TOURGUIDE Visitors to the Berlin Wall Memorial who have a smartphone or a tablet computer with internet access at their disposal have the opportunity to select an individual tour of the memorial grounds for themselves on the memorial's mobile website berliner-mauer.mobi.

Berlin wall is just an ugly looking wall but there is lots of history attached to this wall. This wall is a symbol of "cold war" era and struggle between west and USSR. One must visit this place to understand this struggle at human level....More

One of the many examples of how German's have thoughtfully and precariously preserved their past. It is an outdoor memorial, full of historical facts. It is also home to the last remaining bit of the wall that is upkept, to see how it was until...More

It's hard to think that the wall was here dividing Berlin during your own lifetime. It was somewhere we had wanted to see while we were in Berlin and glad we did. The memory of pictures of the wall coming down in 1989 still seem...More

This is an awesome site to walk through and experience how the wall once separated Berlin into two sides. A section of the wall still in place as a memorial and the stories told when it was there.

I’m not a great fan of “tourist attractions” but this one is done extraordinarily well. You can get a real physical sense of the trauma that Berlin went through as well as interacting with the wall and “no mans land” directly. Take the time to...More

If you are a history buff like me, this memorial is a must-go. When you get there, you learn where the no-men land was and what it meant. It is also located on top a cemetery, so make sure you respect the site.

This place has relics from the time when Berlin was created and subsequently destroyed. It was very interesting to learn about the experiences of people from that period which were shown in the form of stories or videos.

Visited the Berlin Wall Memorial with my family in July of 2018. The best way to get there is to take the subway which has a stop at the end and the middle of the Wall Memorial. It is a good way to see what...More

Took the metro to get here. Slowly walked from one end to the other stopping to read all the info. Chilling to realize what occurred here after WW II. We spent about 2 hours taking it all in.

To think it is such recent history, this is a well thought out and graphic depiction of the wall around West Berlin. Be aware it is closed on Mondays though most of the site and viewing tower is accessible, though not the lift.

The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights
like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum
Island. The central location makes this one of the
city's most expensive places to live. It is here the
oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence
of some significant transformations, as well. The
gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets
between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given
