A great museum which is easy to find and navigate. Moving through the different areas is fascinating and the collections themselves are interesting and well laid out.

A sensational museum of all things German. Incredible art, artifacts, everything. But it is HUGE! Definately get a map and sit to decide what is most important to you. Layout is confusing but the guides in the rooms are very helpful.

The museum was founded before Germany but the significance of the name is lost on English readers. The word 'German' here stands for the German speaking area not the country. Anyway the scope is big, more like the Louvre in that the collections include many...More

Dear Ugurd, thank you for your very nice and informative comment. We´re glad that you enjoyed your visit at our museum. In fact, our name "Germanisches Nationalmuseum" sometimes leads to confusion. As you have already written, the word "Germanic" refers to the “germanic cultural area”,...More

Interesting combination of old building with an added ultra-modern part. The show itself is concentrating on german artists mainly. In spite of venerating Durer as the city's "prodigal son", there are only acouple of his paintings on display! What a pity!More

Dear Arie F, thank you for your kind comment. Basically, the focus of the exhibited works is on Nuremberg art, in whose context Dürer's individual works can also be seen. The collection of the Germanisches Nationalmuseum includes the "Portrait of Barbara Dürer" as well as...More
